Outback clothing icon RM Williams, whose handmade bush apparel line grew into a multi-million dollar worldwide fashion company, has died aged 95.

Born Reginald Murray Williams, but known simply as RM, the legendary bushman died at his home near Toowoomba, Queensland on Tuesday, RM Williams Holdings Ltd chairman Ken Cowley said.

Among Williams' many achievements include helping found the Australian Roughriders' Association and the Stockman's Hall of Fame.

It was his elastic-sided riding boots, however, made from a single piece of leather and branded with his trademark 'longhorn' cattle logo, which made him a millionaire and saw his listed company become a global entity.
