OVS will continue to maintain a limited presence in the country.

Italian clothing retailer OVS says it will be suspending production with suppliers in Myanmar that discriminate against workers involved in rallies against the military junta.

OVS said it will still maintain a limited presence in the country.

Last week H&M Group and Benetton said it was suspending new orders with suppliers in Myanmar.

OVS said it is monitoring the situation in the country and in order to take a position in support of working conditions in Myanmar, has decided to sign the appeal launched by Clean Clothes Campaign and other NGOs and trade unions.

"Given the modest amount of production currently carried out, OVS could easily leave the country, however, as long as it is possible it will continue to maintain an albeit limited presence in Myanmar, suspending any activity with those suppliers who carry out discriminatory acts against workers engaged in protest actions.

"OVS has always placed respect for and protection of people's rights, ethics and transparency at the centre of its activities."
