Teens' and young adults' retailer Pacific Sunwear of California said CEO Seth Johnson has quit the company.

Pacific has named lead director Sally Frame Kasaks as its interim CEO following the resignation.

The company, which has been facing ongoing same-store sales falls, did not give a specific reason for Johnson's resignation but Kasaks said he was leaving to "pursue other interests".

She added: "On behalf of the board, I want to thank Seth for his contributions to the company and wish him well as he pursues other interests."

While in her interim role, Kasaks will step down temporarily from her positions of lead director, chairman of the nominating and governance committee and member of the compensation committee.

During this time, board member Peter Starrett will become interim lead director and interim chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee.

The board is currently initiating a search for a permanent CEO.

The firm has also reported a 2.4% decrease in same-store sales for September and a total sales rise of 4%.
