Perry Ellis International Inc has appointed Mary Gleason as president of licensing, responsible for growing the company's US$23m licensing business.

Gleason, who will report directly to chairman and chief executive officer George Feldenkreis, will steer the company's expansion into new product categories and new markets.

Perry Ellis International currently has license agreements with over 150 licensees for brands such as Perry Ellis, Jantzen, Original Penguin and Gotcha. These generate approximately $500m annually in wholesale sales.

Prior to joining Perry Ellis International, Gleason served as president of the Exeter Brands Group, a Nike subsidiary dedicated to building brands in the value retail channel.

Feldenkreis said Gleason's appointment "will help us maximise licensing opportunities in every channel."
