Fashion retailer Piazza Sempione has opened its first freestanding store in Russia on St Petersburg's Bolshoy Avenue.

The inauguration marks the beginning of the brand's distribution strategy, which involves opening freestanding stores in select cities worldwide.

"Eastern Europe is an important market for Piazza Sempione; its potential in the years to come has prompted the Saint Petersburg opening," said Enrico Morra, Piazza Sempione's CEO.

"It will be followed by a second opening in Moscow in 2007," he added.

The 130-sq-m store in the Petrogradskaya Storona neighbourhood was opened in partnership with Cashmere and Silk Company, Morra said.
