Value shoe retailer Famous Footwear is using weather-based business assessment company Planalytics to better understand and manage the company's weather-related risk and opportunity.

Planalytics aims to allow clients to gauge weather-driven demand for products in advance of the season in order to plan, promote, price and distribute their products accordingly.

Famous Footwear chief financial officer J Martin Lang said: "With more than 900 stores nationwide, we buy in high-volume. Changes in the weather can significantly impact the performance of our product mix."

Famous Footwear sells branded, value-priced family footwear.

Planalytics uses a combination of historical and predictive analytics to provide companies with specific knowledge of how weather has and will influence their business.
