Manufy aims to create more support for local sourcing and help businesses of all sizes grow

A new platform that aims to help strengthen the European economy by creating more local sustainable sourcing opportunities has launched.

Dutch start-up Manufy, which was founded in 2019 by a group of Dutch entrepreneurs who lacked online representation of European producers, looks to connect European buyers, manufacturers and freelancers in an efficient, transparent and sustainable way.

"We want to become a kind of Airbnb for the production of sustainable clothing," says co-founder Michiel Dicker. "Our platform is only open to European manufacturers."

To gain access, the producers must meet certain sustainability certificates and pass a screening by the Manufy team.

"In this way we hope to stimulate local and sustainable production," says Dicker.

The Covid pandemic has accelerated the need for local production, he adds, and has resulted in factories closing, shipments delayed and stock exchanges cancelled making it difficult for producers to remain profitable.

"We hope to create more business with our platform for both the manufacturers and the brands."
