Performance fabric maker Polartec LLC, which bought textile manufacturer Malden Mills Industries Inc in March, has promoted chief operating officer Andrew Vecchione to president.

He takes over from Michael Spillane who has led the Polartec business since July 2004 and is now joining Nike as the new president of Converse North America.

Vecchione has been with Polartec, and before that Malden Mills, since 2004 and has managed operations at its Lawrence, Massachusetts, Hudson, New Hampshire, and Shanghai, China manufacturing facilities.

Spillane will maintain an important strategic advisory role with Polartec, as a member of the company's board of directors.

Greg Segall, chairman of Polartec said: "Andy Vecchione has been an integral part of Polartec's operations and central to its successful turnaround and emergence from Chapter 11. With Andy's leadership and Michael's continued involvement on the board, I see many good years ahead for Polartec."

Polartec, owned by Chrysalis Capital Partners, emerged as a privately held company last month after taking over Malden Mills and emerging from Chapter 11 reorganisation.
