Poor weather dampened Uniqlo sales in July

Poor weather during the first half of July dampened sales of summer items for Fast Retailing-owned casual clothing brand Uniqlo, pushing down sales at its Japanese stores.

Same-store sales fell 1.5% year-on-year, while sales at the chain's directly-run stores dropped 1.4%. Total sales, including online sales, slipped 1.2%.

Uniqlo opened one store, but closed four during the month, taking its total number of stores to 810.

Earlier this week, Fast Retailing highlighted the progress it has made with monitoring and improving working conditions at its textile supplier factories following a series of alleged violations earlier this year.
