Four to five-hour long power cuts in Karachi's industrial areas have reduced textile and apparel production by at least 20%, while workers have also been laid off with half their wages.

Industrialists are now calling on the government to monitor the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) and to take immediate steps to resolve the problem.

The former president of Karachi's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Zubair Motiwala, expressed his concerns over the unabated power failure in the city, but said nobody at KESC would acknowledge the complaints.
