Luxury group PPR is today (03 November) opening its first building entirely for the Gucci brand in Tokyo.

The 35,338-sq-ft flagship is located in the fashionable Ginza district of the capital, joining two other Gucci flagships in the city.

The move comes as the firm strives to raise its share in the Japanese luxury sector - which is worth JPY1.17trn (US$10bn).

"Gucci Ginza is a testament to the Gucci brand's enduring legacy of luxury and an incomparable international shopping destination," said PPR.

High-tech touches in the store, which occupies an eight-floor glass tower, include a video directory and interactive videos.

"It is an innovative expression of modern Gucci glamour that ushers in the label's new design era and continues the Gucci legacy of unparalleled shopping," the company added.

PPR reported sales increased for the first half of this year as the Gucci brand enjoyed "more balanced" growth in all luxury product areas.
