Primark now has five stores in the US and plans to bring the number to 11

UK value retailer Primark has opened another two stores in the north east of the US, in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as the fashion retail giant continues to build its presence stateside.

The openings at the weekend brings the total number of Primark stores in the US to five. They follow an opening in Connecticut last month, and the retailer's first two in Boston and Pennsylvania in September last year.

Primark continues US expansion with third store

Primark aims to have around 11 stores open in the US by the end of the year. Others will be located in Staten Island, New York, another in New Jersey, and two in Massachusetts.

The latest two-storey, 58,600 sq ft Pennsylvania store is located in Willow Grove Mall and features an enhanced customer experience such as a trend room, 58 fitting rooms, 48 registers and access to free wifi.

"We are pleased to open our fifth store in the US and second in the state of Pennsylvania, as we continue to receive extremely positive customer feedback during this time of growth in the northeast," said Paul Marchant, Primark chief executive. "This opening at the Willow Grove Park Mall further builds upon our presence in the greater Philadelphia area, and marks another important milestone in raising awareness of Primark's unique formula of amazing fashion, amazing prices."

The New Jersey store is located in the Freehold Raceway Mall, and at 50,600 sq ft, also offers a trend room, 65 fitting rooms, 47 registers, access to free wifi and two customer "recharge" seating areas.

Earlier this year, Paul Lister, responsible for Primark's ethical trading team, told just-style the company was still learning in the US and said its foray into the country's cut-throat retail market could lead to a slight shift in its sourcing strategy.
