Mecking will manage and market Puma's Teamsport products

German sportswear brand Puma has appointed Matthias Mecking as general manager of its Teamsport business, responsible for managing and marketing the brand's range of Teamsport products in footwear, apparel and accessories.

Based at Puma's headquarters in Herzogenaurach, he succeeds Filip Trulsson, who is moving to a new position within Puma.

With almost 20 years of experience in the sports industry, Mecking started his career at sporting goods giant Adidas in 1996. He has held leading positions overseeing the Teamsport business globally in different roles, from product management to marketing.

Despite posting a double-digit decline in annual profit last year, Puma has said it expects 2016 to be a "year of solid sales growth" thanks to improved sourcing and product.

Net earnings amounted to EUR37.1m (US$41.2m) in the year to the end of December, compared to EUR64.1m in the prior year. Sales increased 14% to EUR3.39bn from EUR2.97bn the year earlier, driven mainly by the footwear and running and training categories.
