A new initiative from sportswear company Puma links the world of women’s professional football in the US with the fight against breast cancer.

Project Pink, which launches this month, is a product of the company’s partnership with Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) and aims to raise awareness and money in support of breast cancer research.

Puma will outfit female players for teams including the Boston Breakers, Washington Freedom, FC Gold Pride, Philadelphia Independence and Sky Blue FC in five WPS matches.

The company has also created a range of Project Pink merchandise available to buy this summer and into Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Profits will be donated to a charity committed to breast cancer awareness or research, with the beneficiary decided by a public online vote in late October.
