Indian textile and apparel conglomerate Raymond Ltd has signed a deal with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to collaborate on a range of training projects and nurture the country's fashion talent.

As part of the agreement, the company has launched the 'Raymond Scholarship' to sponsor top diploma-level students at NIFT by paying some of their tuition fees and providing them with work experience.

In turn, NIFT has agreed to provide customised training to Raymond's staff, particularly in tailoring skills.

Raymond has a network of tailors operating at over 330 retail outlets in 170 cities, and NIFT will train the tailoring services team in fit, trims and machinery as well offering advice on designing men's and women's garments.

Gauri Kumar, director general, NIFT, said the relationship would help the industry to anticipate and meet future challenges.

Raymond group president Mr Pradeep Bhandari added: "Customers today are looking for the best in terms of design innovation and international styles.

"We believe that this alliance with NIFT will help take Raymond's tailoring services to the next level in keeping with fast changing customer needs."
