Sales of men's suits have increased by 10 per cent this year according to a report by consumer analyst Fashion Track.

If the trend continues, suits could bring in £600m this year, the highest figure sine 1985. Moss Bros and Marks & Spencer both report suit sales making a strong recovery.

Martin Raymond, editor of Viewpoint, a lifestyle magazine, said: "The more money people have, the more confident they are about informal dress. The more worried they are about the future, the more they cleave to symbols which remind people of their status."
