Reebok International Ltd has signed award-winning rapper Jay-Z to promote a new line of high-priced sneakers.

The deal, Reebok's first with a Hip-Hop musician, will see the launch of the "S-Carter" shoes (Jay-Z's real name is Shawn Carter) in time for the National Basketball Association finals in June. A limited edition will be rolled out in February to coincide with the NBA All-Star Game, and Mr Carter will issue a CD single specifically written for the new line. The suggested retail priceof the shoes will range from just below $100 to $150.

Mickey Pant, Reebok's chief marketing officer, said the S-Carter is "not being designed for road running" and won't have an athletic look.
