Canadian clothing retailer Reitmans has revealed plans to shutter its Cassis chain.

The retailer announced yesterday (19 October) that it will close its 25 Cassis stores, primarily through conversion to other Reitmans banners.

It said that despite improvements in the stores' performance, the company will refocus its sales and merchandising efforts by converting to other nameplates "with a view to enhancing sales in these store locations".

The Cassis banner accounts or less than 2% of annual sales for the company and it expects the conversion to incur some CAD4m in costs after tax, which will be reflected in its third-quarter results.
