Reliance Brands Ltd has inked an exclusive long-term license agreement with US retailer Steven Madden Ltd to bring its footwear and accessories to India.

Under the deal, Steve Madden products will be available through monobrand stores and premium department stores in all major cities across the country.

"India and its diverse consumer base is a very important and strategic market for us," explains Steve Madden CEO Edward Rosenfeld. "Our association with Reliance Brands culminates a long cherished goal of entering this unique market and marks the beginning of a long term association with trend conscious Indian consumers."

Positioned between high street and luxury, the brand targets women aged 16-40 years. The stores will also offer Madden Girl, a fashionable line for younger girls.

"Currently there is a great demand for fashionable women's footwear and accessories in India; however it is one segment that is lacking in options," notes Darshan Mehta, president and CEO of Reliance Brands.

"Through our association with Steve Madden we look forward to translating the brand's unique fashion sense into the mindset of the Indian women consumers and offering them what they've been demanding."

Reliance Brands, a unit of Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, already has tie-ups with other brands to sell labels including Quiksilver, Diesel, Paul & Shark and Timberland in India
