British clothing retailer Austin Reed Plc is looking for a licensee to take the brand into the Indian market for the first time, and apparel groups S Kumars, Raymond and A V Birla's Madura Garments are likely to be in the running.

Chief executive officer Roger W Jennings, who is currently in India, told The Economic Times that now is the right time to enter India because the market has matured and there are more customers for premium brands than there were three years ago.

"Austin Reed is about to be relaunched globally and it is a big opportunity to build the brand through complementary branded lines in the UK and other international markets," he said.

Jennings added: "The Austin Reed line would cater to both men and women through exclusive stand alone stores. The price tags would be India specific."

Austin Reed operates 80 stores in UK and 1400 stores across the globe including the US, Japan and parts of South East Asia. The label offers men' s and women's wear including formal tailoring and suits, relaxed casuals and leisurewear, accessories and special occasion wear.
