Up to 2800 jobs are at risk after discount fashion chain Ethel Austin Limited yesterday (15 April) went into administration.

The retailer, based in Knowsley, Liverpool has 300 stores across the UK with an annual turnover in the region of GBP150m. (US$296.3m).

Administrator Menzies Corporate Restructuring said its main concern is to ensure that the business continues to trade in the coming weeks and that a suitable buyer is found.

Philip Duffy, a partner at Manchester-based Menzies, said: "Ethel Austin has a good brand and good customer base and this, together with its national coverage, should make it an attractive opportunity for a retailer."
