The following is a general roundup of apparel and shoe chains' April sales results. The list will be updated as new results become available.

Fashion apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters said sales rose 30.2 per cent to $142.5 million compared to $109.4 million in 2004, while same-store sales grew 20 per cent.

Mall-based specialty retailer Hot Topic Inc said sales rose 11 per cent to $44.0 million, while same-store sales fell 4.1 per cent compared to a growth of 0.7 per cent last year.

Large-size women's chain United Retail Group reported a 10 per cent same-store sales growth.

Teen fashion retailer Aeropostale Inc said sales grew 13.8 per cent to $65.1 million, while same-store sales dropped 5.7 per cent compared to an increase of 19.7 per cent last year.

Upmarket fashion brand Guess? Inc's sales grew 8.4 per cent to $39.4 million compared to sales of $36.3 million in 2004. Same-store sales fell 1.2 per cent.

Specialty stores group Limited Brands said sales totalled $597.5 million compared to net sales of $586.6 million last year, while same-store sales fell 4 per cent compared to the same period in 2004.

Casual apparel, footwear and accessories retailer The Buckle Inc reported sales of 8.7 per cent to $29.7 million from sales of $27.3 million in the same period last year. Same-store sales grew 4.0 per cent.

Leather outerwear, accessories and apparel retailer Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc said sales totalled $18.6 million compared to $17.9 million a year ago. Same-store sales rose 13.0 per cent compared to a 3.5 per cent slump last year.

Children's merchandise company The Children's Place Retail Stores Inc said sales grew 57 per cent to $107.7 million from $68.7 million last year, while same-store sales rose 8 per cent compared to 7 per cent in 2004.
 
Value-priced shoe and accessories retailer Shoe Carnival Inc said sales fell 6.7 per cent to $45.3 million from sales of $48.6 million in 2004. Same-store sales dropped 9.9 per cent.

Mid-price footwear retailer Bakers Footwear Group said sales rose 16.2 per cent to $44.9 million up from $38.7 million last year. Same-store sales grew 7.8 per cent compared to a 10.2 per cent rise last year.

Specialty apparel chain New York & Company Inc said sales rose 2.4 per cent to $81.4 million compared to $79.5 million a year ago, while same-store sales fell 0.7 per cent compared to growth of 6.5 per cent last year.

Women's apparel and accessories company bebe stores Inc reported a 42.4 per cent sales rise to $40.3 million compared to sales of $28.3 million in 2004. Same-store sales rose 31.2 per cent compared to an increase of 10.0 per cent in 2004.

Mid-priced apparel chain Goody's Family Clothing Inc posted a sales drop of 6.9 per cent to $93.2 million compared to $100.1 million last year, while same-store sales dropped 12.1 per cent.

Value women's fashion chain The Cato Corporation said sales fell 6 per cent to $67.1 million from $71.2 million last year. Same-store sales dropped 10 per cent.

Specialty family footwear giant Payless ShoeSource Inc said same-store sales dropped 2.8 per cent.

Large-scale off-price group The TJX Companies Inc said sales rose 9 per cent to $1.2 billion from $1.1 billion the year before. Same-store sales grew 4 per cent.

Career and casual fashion retailer The Dress Barn Inc said sales increased 44 per cent to $104.9 million compared to $73.0 million in 2004. Same-store sales grew 3 per cent.

Gap Inc said sales slipped 2 per cent to $1.2 billion compared with sales of $1.3 billion in 2004. Same-store sales dropped 5 per cent, down from a 3 per cent rise last year.

Discount clothing company Ross Stores Inc said sales rose 11 per cent to $357 million, while same-store sales grew 1 per cent.

Women's apparel, shoes and accessories retailer Ann Taylor Stores Corp said sales increased 9.3 per cent to $174.3 million from $159.4 million a year ago, while same-store sales slipped 3 per cent.

Teen apparel retailer Pacific Sunwear of California Inc said sales increased 3.5 per cent to $76.4 million from $73.8 million last year while same-store sales fell 6.4 per cent.

Women's Apparel group Talbots Inc said sales rose 11 per cent to $151.8 million from $136.5 million a year earlier, while same-store sales grew 7.1 per cent compared with an increase of 0.3 per cent a year ago.

Teen clothing retailer Deb Shops Inc said sales increased 9.7 per cent to $27.4 million from $25 million in 2004. Same-store sales increased 10.3 per cent.

Department store group Saks Inc said sales fell 1.2 per cent, while same-store sales rose 0.3 per cent.

Department store operator Kohl's Corporation said sales grew 18.7 per cent, while same-store sales rose 8.0 per cent.

High-end specialty retailer The Neiman Marcus Group Inc said sales rose 13.3 per cent to $309 million from $272 million in 2004, while same-store sales grew 14.2 per cent to $307 million compared to $269 million a year ago.

Apparel and home furnishings giant Dillard's Inc said sales totalled $514 million compared to $542 million last year, while same-store sales dropped 6 per cent.

Online designer retailer Bluefly Inc said sales by over 33 per cent to approximately $4.5 million from approximately $3.4 million last year.

Department store operator The Bon-Ton Stores Inc said sales increased 4.5 per cent to $87.2 million compared to $83.5 million for the same period last year, while same-store sales increased 4.9 per cent.

Large-scale department store retailer J C Penney Company Inc said total department store sales increased 4.7 per cent, while same-store department store sales increased 3.6 per cent from last year.

Apparel and accessories retailer The Wet Seal Inc said sales rose 5.1 per cent to $33.6 million compared to $32.0 million in 2004. Same-store sales increased 35.7 per cent.

Stage Stores Inc said sales increased 1.0 per cent to $92.6 million from $91.7 million in the prior year period. Same-store sales decreased 2.5 per cent versus an increase of 0.3% per cent last year.
