The following is a general roundup of apparel and shoe chains' August 2007 sales results. The list will be updated as new results become available.

International retailer Gap Inc reported net sales of $1.20bn for the month of August, which represented a 4% increase compared with net sales of $1.15bn for the same period last year. The company's monthly same-store sales decreased 1% compared with a 7% decrease last year.

Department store chain Saks Incorporated said that owned sales increased 19.9% to US$213.5m, compared to the prior year period. Same-store sales increased 18.2% for the four-week period.

Women's speciality retailer Ann Taylor Stores Corporation said that its sales for the month of August 2007 had increased 9.1% to $162.7m, compared with net sales of $149.2m for same the four-week period in 2006. By division, net sales for Ann Taylor increased 1.5% to $57.5m, from $56.6m, and 7.9% for Ann Taylor Loft.

Ross Stores reported sales of $461m for the four weeks, a 12% increase over the same month in 2006. Same-store sales for the month grew 4% compared to the same period ended 2 September 2006.

Junior apparel company Deb Shops reported that a same-store sales increased of 0.2% for the month, while total sales increased 2.6% to $31.0m from $30.2m for August 2006.

The Wet Seal, a specialty retailer for young women, said that same-store sales increased 1.7% for the four-week period, compared to the same period last year. Net sales for the month were $56.1m, compared to net sales of $51.2m for August 2006.

Store operator Nordstrom reported preliminary sales of $582.3m for the four-week period, an increase of 12.6% compared to last year. Same-store sales increased 6.6%.

The Cato Corporation reported sales for the four weeks of $59.2m, a 2% decrease from sales of $60.4m in August last year. Same-store sales increased 2%.

Meanwhile, women's clothing firm Christopher & Banks Corporation reported August sales of $41.5m, compared to $38.6m for the four-week period in 2006. August same-store sales increased 2%.

The Buckle's net sales for the fiscal month ended 1 September increased 16.3% to $59.9m, while same-store net sales for stores open at least one year increased 16.7%.

Maternity wear company Mothers Work announced that net sales for the month of August 2007 increased 1.6% to $47.1m, as same-store sales decreased 3.7% versus the same month last year.

Wilsons The Leather Experts reported sales of $16.3m for the month, as compared to $15.8m for the four weeks ended 26 August 2006. Year-to-date sales for the company's stores decreased 15.9% to $117.5m.

Apparel group Limited Brands reported same-store sales for the four weeks ended 1 September 2007 up 1%. The company reported net sales of $565.2m for the four week, compared to sales of $638.8m last year.

Cache, a specialty chain of women's apparel stores with 296 stores open, reported August 2007 same-store sales up 7% during the month compared to a decrease of 3% in the prior-year period. Its total net sales for August increased $0.7m, or 4.5%, to $17.2m.

Action sports apparel retailer Zumiez announced that total net sales for August rose 39.7% to $47.0m. The company's same-store sales increased 17.4% for the four-weeks.

Stage Stores reported total sales for the four-week August period of $123.5m versus sales of $128.8m for the prior year period. Same-store sales decreased 2.6% versus an increase of 3.8% last year.

JoS A Bank Clothiers' total net sales for the month increased 14.5% to $33.9m from the comparable period last year. Same-store sales gained 7.7% in August, as compared with the same month last year.

The TJX Companies reported in August that sales stood at $1.4bn for the month, up 7% over last year. Same-store sales for the four-week period increased 4% over last year's month of August.

Department store operator Kohl's Corporation has reported that sales for the four-week period ended 1 September 2007 increased 7.1% over the same period last year. On a same-store basis, sales decreased 0.6%.

Macy's, meanwhile, reported total sales of $1.788bn for the four weeks, an increase of 3.7% compared to the same period last year. On a same-store basis, its sales were up 2.4% in August.

Fashion apparel retailer Dillard's announced that sales were $537m for the month, down from $556.7m in the prior year period. Same-store sales declined 5%.

The Bon-Ton Stores' total sales for the four weeks ended 1 September 2007 increased 1.5% to $228.3m, compared to $225.0m for the prior year period. Bon-Ton and Carson's combined same-store sales for the four weeks increased 1.3%.

Youth apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters reported that total sales for the four weeks were $311.3m, an increase of 13% compared to $276.6m for August 2006. Same-store sales increased 9%, compared to a 16% increase for the same period last year.

Youth apparel chain Hot Topic said that net sales fell 2.5% to $71.2m for the month of August. Hot Topic same-store sales decreased 1.7% for the fiscal month and Torrid same-store sales increased 1.7%.

Chico's reported that its sales results for September increased 6.3% to $118.8m for August. Same-store sales decreased 9.3% for the four-week period.

Finally, United Retail Group said that net sales during August 2007 were $24.9m compared with $26.4m during August 2006. Same-store sales decreased 7% for the month versus a 3% increase in August 2006.
