The following is a general roundup of apparel and shoe chains' May sales results. The list will be updated as new results become available.

Retail chain operator The Neiman Marcus Group Inc reported a 10.2 per cent increase in net sales to $269 million compared to net sales of $245 million last year, while same-store sales increased 11.0 per cent to $267 million from $241 million a year ago.

Career and casual wear retailer The Dress Barn Inc said net sales increased 42 per cent to $104.7 million compared to $73.9 million in 2004. Same-store sales increased 1 per cent.

Leather goods chain Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc said net sales increased 7.6 per cent to $17.2 million as compared to $16.0 million last year, while same-store sales increased 11.0 per cent compared to a drop of 6.4 per cent last year.

Mall-based specialty retailer Hot Topic Inc reported a net sales increase of 15 per cent to $43.3 million, with a same-store sales drop of 1.9 per cent compared to a drop of 0.5 per cent in 2004.

Plus-size retailer United Retail Group Inc posted a net sales increase of 9 per cent to $39.1 million from $36.0m a year ago. Same-store sales increased 10 per cent.

Teen clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc said net sales increased 25.8 per cent to $140.9 million. Same-store sales increased 17.1 per cent.

Specialty retailer Chico's FAS Inc said net sales increased 29.9 per cent to $117.1 million from $90.2 million in 2004. Same-store sales for company-owned stores increased 13.6 per cent.

Specialty apparel chain New York & Co reported a net sales increase of 4.4 per cent to $96.8 million from last year's $92.7 million. Same-store sales increased 0.6 per cent.

Retail group Limited Brands said net sales were $672.9 million compared to net sales of $641.4 million last year. Same-store sales dropped 1 per cent.

Women's apparel and accessories company bebe stores inc said net sales increased 54.5 per cent to 44.8 million from $29.0 million in 2004, while same-store sales increased 40.3 per cent compared to an increase of 10.2 per cent last year.

Specialty women's apparel chain Cache Inc reported a net sales increase of 17.5 per cent to $21.5 million, while same-store sales increased 10 per cent.

Children's merchandise group The Children's Place Retail Stores Inc posted a 58 per cent net sales increase to $90.4 million compared to $57.2 million a year ago. Same-store sales for The Children's Place stores increased 2 per cent compared with a 9 per cent increase in 2004.

Mid-priced family apparel company Goody's Family Clothing Inc reported a total sales drop of 3.5 per cent to $95.9 million compared to $99.4 million a year ago. Same-store sales dropped 9.1 per cent.

Maternity apparel retailer Mothers Work Inc said net sales increased 3.7 per cent to $51.9 million from $50 million last year, while same-store sales dropped 8.1 per cent.

Clothing giant Gap Inc said net sales dropped 3 per cent to 1.17 billion from $1.21 billion a year ago. Same-store sales dropped 8 percent compared with a 6 percent increase the year before.

Clothing retailer Talbots Inc posted a same-store sales increase of 4.1 per cent compared to an increase of 8.1 per cent in 2004.

Cut-price retailer TJX Cos reported a 5 per cent increase in net sales to $1.2 billion compared to $1.1bn a year ago, and a 1 per cent same-store sales drop.

Women's apparel retailer Ann Taylor Stores Corp said net sales increased 4.3 per cent to $177.1 million from $169.9 million last year, while same-store sales dropped 7.1 per cent.

Teen clothing retailer Pacific Sunwear of California Inc said net sales increased 11.3 per cent to $80.7 million from $72.5 million in 2004, while same-store sales increased 0.4 per cent.

Athletic and casual wear retailer The Finish Line Inc posted a net sales increase of 13 per cent to $291.2 million from last year's $258 million. Same-store sales increased 2 per cent.

Upmarket goods company Guess Inc said net sales rose 10.8 per cent to $39.7 million, while same-store sales increased 1.9 per cent.

Teen clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch Co's net sales increased 43 per cento $159 million from $111.5 million in 2004. Same-store sales increased 29 per cent.

Cut-price apparel retailer Stein Mart Inc said net sales increased 2.6 per cent to $117.9 million, while same-store sales increased 0.4 per cent.

Teen clothing retailer Deb Shops Inc reported a 2.1 per cent net sales increase to $26.2 million from $25.6 million, while same-store sales increased 2.7 per cent.

Department store operator Ross Stores Inc posted a net sales increase of 16 per cent to $370 million from $319 million, with a same-store sales increase 7 per cent.

Cut-price footwear retailer Shoe Carnival Inc said net sales increased 11.5 per cent to $48 million from $43.1 million in 2004, while same-store sales increased 7.1 per cent.

Ladies' footwear seller Cato Corp's net sales increased 4 per cent to $72.3 million from $69.5 million last year. Same-store sales dropped 1 per cent.

Women's clothing retailer Christopher & Banks Corp reported a net sales increase of 21 per cent to $39.3 million from $32.4 million last year. Same-store sales increased by 7 per cent.

Clothing retailer Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp said same-store sales rose 8.2 per cent.

Leading department store retailer Federated Department Stores Inc said net sales increased 0.7 per cent $1.191 billion from $1.182 billion in the same period last year. On a same-store basis, sales increased 0.8 per cent.

Top retail group Saks Inc's net sales dropped 2.7 per cent, while same-store sales dropped 1.2 per cent.

Apparel and home furnishings retailer Dillard's Inc said net sales increased 1 per cent to $518.97 million compared to $511.41 million last year. Same-store sales also increased 1 per cent.

Department store retailer The Bon-Ton Stores Inc reported a 6.5 per cent drop in net sales to $89.0 million compared to $95.1 million for the same period last year. Same-store sales dropped 6.1 per cent.

Large-scale retailer JC Penney's net sales increased 5.4 per cent to $1.29 million compared to $1.22 million a year ago. Same-store department store sales increased 3.5 per cent.

Specialty apparel and accessories retailer The Wet Seal Inc reported a net sales increase of 21.1 per cent to $40.0 million compared with net sales of $33.0 million for the same period last year. Same-store sales increased 56.9 per cent compared with a drop of 7.8 per cent for the same period a year ago.

Specialty retailer and cataloguer The Talbots Inc said net sales increased 11 per cent to $137.3 million from $124.1 million in 2004. Same-store sales increased 4.1 per cent for the month.

Leading men's-clothing retailer JoS A Bank Clothiers Inc reported a 20.2 per cent increase in net sales to $31.5 million compared with $26.2 million in 2004. Same-store sales increased 5.6 per cent.

Children's clothing retailer The Gymboree Corp posted a 6 per cent net sales increase to $36.7 million from $34.7 million a year ago, while same-store sales dropped 1 per cent.
