The following is a general round-up of apparel and shoe chains' November sales results. The list will be updated as new results become available.

Large-size ladies' apparel retailer United Retail Group Inc said November sales rose 10 per cent to $33.8 million from $30.9 million in the November 2003, with comparable store sales increasing 11 per cent for the month.

Off-price retailer Ross Stores Inc said November sales increased 7 per cent to $391 million from $364 million in the year-before period. Same-store sales dropped 2 percent, compared with a 5 percent gain in the year-ago month.

Upscale apparel company Guess? Inc said sales for the four weeks ended 27 November 2004 were $46.6 million - an increase of 8.0 per cent from sales of $43.2 million for the four weeks ended 29 November 2003. Comparable store sales for the November period increased 0.5 per cent.

Footwear company Payless ShoeSource Inc said sales dropped 1.0 per cent to $206.4 million from $208.5 million in the same period last year. Same-store sales fell 2.3 per cent.

Limited Brands retail group, whose chains include Victoria's Secret, Express and Bath & Bodyworks, said sales in the November period fell to $762.7 million from $785.6 million a year earlier.

Trendy retailer Abercrombie & Fitch said net sales rose 17 per cent to $188.0 million for the period ended 27 November to $188.0 million compared to $161.2 million, whilst comparable store sales rose 2 per cent.

Speciality retailer New York & Company Inc said sales for the four-week period ended 27 November rose 2.9 per cent to $92.1 million, as compared to $89.5 million in the prior year period. Comparable store sales decreased 0.4 per cent for the four-week period, as compared to a comparable store sales increase of 5.9 per cent in the prior year period.

Casual clothing retailer Gadzooks Inc said November sales totalled $12.5 million. Comparable store sales increased 13.0 per cent for the November period compared to the same period in fiscal 2003.

Upmarket retailer Nordstrom Inc said sales rose 6.2 per cent to $667.6 million for the four-week period ended 27 November from $628.4 million a year earlier. Same-store sales increased 3.1 per cent.

Ladies' and children's retailer The Gymboree Corporation reported a net sales drop of 3 per cent to $52.1 million compared to net sales of $53.7 million for the same four-week period last year. Same-store sales decreased 10 per cent compared to an increase of 5 per cent in the same period last year.

Retail group The TJX Companies Inc reported a 10 per cent sales increase to $1.4 billion compared to the $1.3 billion made in the November period last year. Consolidated comparable store sales for the four-week period ended 27 November 2004 increased 2 per cent over last year.

Ladies' clothing retailer Bebe Stores Inc said sales increased 35 per cent for the November period to $40.9 million from $30.4 million last year.

Plus-size ladies' wear retailer Charming Shoppes Inc said sales increased 4 per cent to $176.4 million from $169.6 million for the four weeks ended 27 November. Same-store sales increased 3 per cent.

Ladies' clothing retailer AnnTaylor Stores Corp said  sales rose 4.7 per cent to $146.2 million from $139.6 million for the four-week period last year. Same-store sales dropped 8.3 per cent.

Value-price men's wear retailer S&K Famous Brands Inc said sales for the four weeks ended 27 November  2004 rose 12.3 per cent to $16.2 million compared to $14.4 million last year. Same-store sales were up 9.8 per cent.

Online retailer Bluefly Inc said net sales for the month of November increased by approximately 8 per cent to $3.9 million from $3.6m for the month of November 2003.
