The following is a general round-up of apparel and shoe chains' October sales results. The list will be updated as new results become available.

United Retail Group Inc said net sales increased 11 per cent to $32.5 million during October 2004 from $29.4 million during October 2003. Comparable store sales increased 11 per cent for the month.

Lifestyle retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc said sales for the four-week period ended 30 October increased 39.0 per cent to $133.6 million, compared to $96.1 million for the comparable period last year.

Comparable store sales for the American Eagle Outfitters stores increased 31.7 per cent for the October period. Consolidated comparable store sales, which include American Eagle and Bluenotes stores, increased 29.2 per cent for the month compared to the corresponding period ended 1 November 2003.

Clothing and accessories company Hot Topic Inc reported a 10 per cent increase in October sales to $56.2 million, whilst comparable store sales were down 3.8 per cent compared to 11.2 per cent in 2003.

Fashion clothing retailer Aeropostale Inc reported a sales increase of 28.3 per cent to $72 million for October, from $56.1 million a year earlier. Same-store sales rose 9.1 per cent, compared with a decrease of 6.8 per cent a year ago
 
Lifestyle apparel and accessory company Guess? Inc reported a 12.3 per cent increase in sales for the five weeks ended 30 October to $45.4 million, compared to sales of $40.5 million in the comparable period in 2003. Comparable store sales for the October period increased 6.2 per cent.

High street giant Gap Inc said sales for the four weeks ended 30 October increased 5 per cent to $1.3 billion compared to sales of $1.2 billion in the same period last year. Comparable store sales for October 2004 increased 3 per cent compared with a 1 per cent increase in October 2003.

Value men's wear retailer S&K Famous Brands In said sales for the four weeks ended 30 October increased 12.3 per cent to $14.8 million compared to $13.2 million last year. Same-store sales rose 9.6 per cent.

Off-price apparel chain Ross Stores Inc reported a 14 per cent sales increase to $342 million for October 30 2004, compared to sales of $299 million in the comparable 2003 period. Comparable store sales during October rose 4 per cent over the prior year.

Trendy retailer Abercrombie & Fitch reported sales of $133.9 million for October - a 28 per cent increase over last year's sales of $105.0 million. October comparable store sales increased 11 per cent compared with the four-week period ended November 1, 2003.
 
Young women's retailer Gadzooks Inc said October sales totalled $10.5 million, whilst comparable store sales rose 14.1 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Women's value fashion apparel retailer The Cato Corporation reported an October sales increase of 8 per cent to $52.9 million compared to sales of $48.8 million in the comparable period in 2003.Comparable store sales for the month increased 5 per cent.

Women's speciality retail chain AnnTaylor Stores Corporation said sales for October increased 19.5 per cent to $157.39 million compared to sales of $131.72 million for the same period in 2003. Comparable store sales increased 6.2 per cent for the period, compared to a comparable store sales increase of 3.9 per cent for the same four-week period last year.

Off-price retailer The TJX Companies Inc has recorded October sales of $1.3 billion - a 15 per cent increase on the $1.1 billion reported in the four-week period ended 1 November 2003. Consolidated comparable store sales for the period increased 7 per cent over last year.

Federated Department Stores Inc, which operates stores under names such as under Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Bon-Macy's, reported sales of $1.10 billion for the four weeks ended 30 October a 3.8 per cent increase in sales compared to sales of $1.06 billion in the same period in 2003. Same-store sales rose by 4.0 per cent in October.

Speciality apparel chain New York & Company Inc recorded an October increase of $4.2 million, or 6.7 per cent, to $67.1 million for the four-week October period, as compared to $62.9 million in the prior year period. Comparable store sales for October increased 4.1 per cent compared to a decrease of 4.6 per cent in the prior-year period.

Fashion apparel and home furnishings retailer Dillard's Inc announced that sales for the October period were $456.62 million, compared to sales of $481.33 million in the year-before period.

Department store chain The Bon-Ton Stores Inc announced a total sales increase for the October period of 39.0 per cent to $96.9 million, compared to $69.7 million for the same period last year. Bon-Ton comparable store sales decreased 5.2%.

Retail group J C Penney Company Inc said comparable sales within its department stores totalled $1.17 million for the period ended 30 October, compared to $1.14 million in the same period in 2003.

Men's, ladies' and children's retailer The Talbot's Inc said its October sales increased 7 per cent to $146.9 million from $137.9 million in the prior-year period. Comparable store sales increased 4.7 per cent for the month.
                     
Speciality retailer The Wet Seal Inc reported October sakes of $29.8 million compared to $36.8 million in the same period in 2003. Comparable store sales declined 15.5 per cent during October, compared with a decline of 9.8 per cent in the same period a year ago.

Teenage and young adult retailer Pacific Sunwear reported $19.6 per cent for October to $74.9 million, compared to $62.6 million in the same period in the previous year. Same-store sales increased 8.5 per cent for the comparable four-week period ended 30 October 2004.

Ladies' apparel and accessory company bebe stores inc announced sales of $35.4 million for the four-week period ended 30 October  2004, an increase of 40.5 per cent compared to sales of $25.2 million for the four-week period ended 1 November  2003.  Same store sales for the four-week period ended 30 October 2004 increased 30.6 per cent compared to an increase of 4.9% for October 2003

Value children's retailer The Children's Place reported announced sales of $88.1 million for the four-week period ended 30 October 2004, a 29 per cent increase compared to sales of $68.2 million reported for October 2003. Comparable store sales for the four-week period increased 21 per cent, on top of an 8 per cent increase in the prior year period.

Ladies' apparel chain Cache Inc reported a total sales increase of $1.2 million, or 7.4 per cent, to $17.5 million for the four-week October 2004 period and a comparable store sales increase of 1 per cent during the four-week October 2004 period.

Men's clothing retailer  JoS. A. Bank Clothiers Inc announced that its total sales for the fiscal month ended 30 October 30 increased 6.7 per cent to $28.8 million, compared with $27.0 million in the prior-year month. Comparable store sales decreased 7.1 per cent when compared with the fiscal month of October 2003.


US retail giant Gap said comparable-store sales grew 3 per cent, with net revenue hfor the month increasing 5 per cent to $1.3 billion from $1.2 bn a year ago.

Gap's namesake US stores reported a 7 per cent increase in same-store sales against a 1 percent year-ago gain.

Gap International saw a decrease of 11 per cent, Banana Republic posted a 3 per cent increase in comparative store sales as opposed to 11 percent increase last year, and Old Navy's comparative store sales rose 4 per cent against a 4 per cent drop last year.
