Columbia Sportswear Company has appointed Kirk Richardson as its general manager of footwear, with effect from yesterday (1 December).

Richardson joins outerwear and footwear specialist Columbia from Keen Footwear, where he has been president since March 2006.

He previously spent 27 years in various footwear and apparel positions with Nike.

"Richardson's proven strategic skills will play an important role in driving product innovation and attacking global market opportunities across our three footwear brands, Columbia, Sorel and Montrail," said Mark Nenow, vice president of global footwear at Columbia.

Richardson, who will report to Nenow, said: "One of my goals will be to ensure we actively listen to the hopes and dreams of core active consumers and use their insights and aspirations to inspire products with purpose and utility engineered into them."
