Cut-price retailer Ross Stores Inc today announced a number of executive promotions and revealed that president and chief operating officer James Peters has left the company.

The company named vice chairman and chief executive officer Michael Balmuth as its new president, replacing James Peters who resigned today.

Gary Cribb, former senior vice president, store operations, has taken on the role of executive vice president and chief operations officer.

Michael Sullivan, previously senior vice president, strategic planning and marketing, is now chief administrative officer with responsibility for strategy, finance, information systems, human resources and legal.

James Fassio has been promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president of property development, construction and store design.

Barry Gluck, most recently senior vice president and general merchandise manager, has been named executive vice president with continued responsibility for the men's business, and the addition of marketing and planning and allocation.

Barbara Levy, previously senior vice president and general merchandise manager, has been appointed executive vice president, merchandising, and Barbara Rentler has been promoted from senior vice president to executive vice president, chief merchandising officer of dd's Discounts.

Jennifer Williams, previously group vice president and divisional merchandise manager, has been named senior vice president and general merchandise manager with responsibility for shoes, lingerie and children's.  

The company also said that Michael Wilson has rejoined the company as senior vice president, distribution and transportation.

Ross Stores Inc is an off-price company with 639 Ross stores in the US and Guam and 10 dd's Discounts stores in California.
