The following is a general round-up of United States apparel and footwear retailers' November sales results released this week:

New Jersey-based large-sized women's apparel retailer United Retail Group Inc posted total sales of $30.9 million, down from $33.2m last year, while comparable store sales decreased four per cent.

California-based young people's apparel retailer Hot Topic Inc announced a 30 per cent increase in net sales to $45.3m, up from $34.9m a year ago, while comparable store sales were up 7.3 per cent over 2002.

Women's clothing retailer Chico's FAS Inc reported a sales increase of 54.1 per cent to $69.2m, compared to $44.9m a year prior, while comparable store sales at its 548 outlets were up 16.3 per cent year-on-year.

Bronx-based discounter Loehmann's Holdings Inc saw net sales rise 2.8 per cent to $270.7m, up from $263.4m a year earlier, while pre-tax earnings totalled $20.1m, down from $24.9m last year.

Youth-oriented fashion retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc posted record sales of $148.9m, increased from $143.9m in 2002, while same-store sales fell 6.2 per cent on last year's figure.

Houston-based clothing chain Men's Wearhouse Inc saw same-store sales rise 5.9 per cent, while total sales reached $116.4m across 579 stores, an increase of 8.8 per cent on last year's $107m.

San Diego-based family apparel retailer Factory 2-U recorded its first same-store sales increase since June, with 2.9 per cent growth, while total sales were $46.9m, down 1.7 per cent from last year's $47.7m.

Retail chain Aeropostale Inc reported a 10.3 per cent increase in same-store sales, as well as a 32.2 per cent increase in total sales from $65.3m to $86.3m.

Dallas-based retail company The Neiman Marcus Group Inc posted a revenue jump of 6.1 per cent, from $278m to $295m, along with a comparable revenue rise of 5.8 per cent.

Philadelphia-based maternity wear retailer Mothers Work Inc posted a net sales increase of 6.4 per cent to $43.2m at its 870 stores, compared to $40.6m a year ago, as well as a same-store increase of 7.9 per cent year-on-year.

Tennessee-based apparel merchant Goody's Family Clothing Inc recorded total sales of $121.7m at its 335 retail outlets, an increase of 5.5 per cent from last year's figure of $115.4m, while comparable store sales crept up 1.3 per cent compared to the year prior.

The Ohio-based operator of lingerie chain Victoria's Secret, Limited Brands Inc, reported a mere 1 per cent sales rise to $785.6m, up from $751.1m a year earlier.

Californian women's apparel retailer Bebe Stores Inc posted retail sales of $33.1m at its 188 stores, up 12.6 per cent from the $29.4m recorded last year, while same-store sales were up 9.1 per cent year-on-year.

Houston-based retailer Stage Stores Inc saw sales rise 34.6 per cent to $96.1m, increased from $71.4m, while same-store sales slumped 5.8 per cent on 2002 figures.

Nebraska-based casual apparel and footwear chain The Buckle Inc recorded a 10.1 per cent jump in sales to $38.5m at its 320 retail units, up from $35m a year ago, as well as a same-store sales increase, year-on-year, of 5.4 per cent.

Leather apparel retailer Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc experienced a sales downturn of 19.6 per cent at its 607 stores, posting $62.1m against last year's $77.2m, with comparable store sales falling 16.5 per cent compared to last year.

Kids' clothing chain The Children's Place Retail Stores Inc, which operates 651`retail stores across the US, enjoyed a sales increase of 26 per cent to $64.3m, while same-store sales were up 14 per cent year-on-year.

Indiana-based footwear seller Shoe Carnival Inc posted 2.3 per cent sales growth and 7.8 per cent comparable store sales downturn year-on-year, boasting earnings of $43.4m compared to $42.4m a year earlier.

Maryland-based clothing retailer JoS A Bank Clothiers Inc reported record sales of $29.6m at its 209 stores, up 19.4 per cent from $24.8m last year, while year-on-year comparable store sales increased 2.5 per cent.

Women's apparel chain Cache Inc posted a five per cent increase in comparable store sales and a 9.8 per cent rise in total sales compared to last year, earning $17.3m across its 255 retail outlets.

Plus-size women's fashion retailer Charming Shoppes Inc, which operates 2260 stores throughout the US, saw total sales fall eight per cent to $169.6m, compared to $184.4m last year, with comparable store sales falling by the same margin.

Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom Inc recorded sales of $631.9m, up 10.2 per cent from $573.6m last year, while same store sales were up 7.4 per cent on 2002.

Minneapolis-based women's clothing merchant Christopher & Banks Corporation saw sales soar 14 per cent to $38m, up from $33.4 m a year prior, despite a same-store sales decline of two per cent.

Casual apparel retailer Pacific Sunwear of California Inc, which also operates the d.e.m.o. chain, reported a 22.4 per cent rise in sales to $84.3m over $68.9m recorded last year, as well as an 11.4 per cent hike in same-store sales.

Massachusetts-based apparel retailer The Talbots Inc boosted total sales by six per cent to $126m across its 968 stores, up from $118.7m a year earlier, while an 0.8 per cent increase was recorded for same-store sales year-on-year.

Department store chain Stein Mart Inc posted net sales of $137m across 265 outlets, a 4.6 per cent decrease on 2002's $143.6m, as well as a downturn of 4.7 per cent in same-store sales.

Philadelphia-based retailer Deb Shops Inc reported a comparable store sales decrease of 9.7 per cent year-on-year, while total sales at its 335 outlets were down 6.6 per cent to $23.4m, compared to $25m a year earlier.

Online apparel retailer Bluefly Inc announced a net sales increase of 16 per cent to $3.6m, after posting sales of $3.1m last year.

Apparel seller AnnTaylor Stores Corp saw sales at its 652 stores rise 20.1 per cent to $139.63m, compared to $116.23m in 2002, while same-store sales were up 9.6 per cent.

North Carolina-based value apparel retailer The Cato Corporation saw sales across its 1095 stores go down three per cent to $54.7m, along with a comparable store sales drop of 9 per cent based on last year's results.

Children's specialty retailer The Gymboree Corporation posted net sales of $56.2m, a 12 per cent increase on last year's $50.2m, while same-store sales were up five per cent on last year.

Youth-oriented apparel retailer Abercrombie & Fitch recorded net sales of $161.2m across its 694 stores, compared to $158.7m last year, while comparable store sales went down 13 per cent.

Californian specialty retailer The Wet Seal Inc reported sales of $45.7m, down from $48.4m a year earlier, while comparable store sales declined 6.7 per cent year-on-year.

Dallas-based casual apparel seller Gadzooks Inc posted a 31.1 per cent decrease in sales, down to $16.4m from $23.8m a year ago, along with a comparable store sales decrease of 28.1 per cent.

Footwear giant Payless ShoeSource Inc saw same-store sales decrease 5.2 per cent, while total sales at its 5065 outlets, at $208.5m, were down four per cent from $217.2m last year.

Fashion retailer Guess Inc reported total sales of $43.2m, an increase of 17.3 per cent on 2002's $36.8m, and a comparable store sales increase of 12.3 per cent.

St Louis-based footwear retailer Brown Shoe Company Inc, which operates the Famous Footwear and Naturalizer chains, saw sales fall to $74.6m after posting $75.1m last year, and reported a same-store sales decrease of 2.9 per cent.

San Francisco-based apparel giant Gap Inc posted net sales of $1.4 billion across its 4208 stores, a seven per cent increase on last year's $1.3bn, along with a comparable store sales rise of six per cent.

Indianapolis-based apparel and footwear retailer The Finish Line Inc recorded net sales of $202.03m compared to $147.87m a year earlier, an increase of 37 per cent, as well as a comparable store sales increase of 25 per cent year-on-year.

Discount family apparel retailer Ross Stores Inc, which oversees 573 stores, reported sales growth of 15 per cent to $364m, up from $316m a year prior, and comparable store sales growth of five per cent.

Value-priced menswear retailer S&K Famous Brands Inc announced sales of $13.8m, down from $14.5m a year ago, and a comparable store sales decrease of six per cent compared to 2002.

Minneapolis-based department store chain Target Corp reported same-store sales growth of 6.2 per cent over last year, while total sales rose 12.1 per cent to $4.41bn from $3.94bn a year earlier.

Texas-based department store group JC Penney saw same-store sales fall 0.8 per cent, while sales were similarly flat with 0.3 per cent growth to $2.83bn, up from $2.83bn a year prior.

Wisconsin-based retailer Kohl's Corp saw sales at its 542 stores fall 4.4 per cent, with sales rising 9.3 per cent to $1.19bn compared to $1.09bn a year earlier.

Department store chain Saks Inc saw same-store sales jump 6.7 per cent, while sales totalled $617.5m, a 7.6 per cent increase from $617.5m recorded last year.

Illinois-based fashion retailer The Spiegel Group recorded sales of $195.4m, a downturn of 25 per cent from last year.

Value apparel group The TJX Companies Inc posted sales of $1.26bn, up 10 per cent from $1.15bn in 2002, at its 1704 US outlets.

Pennsylvania-based department store chain The Bon-Ton Stores announced a comparable store sales decrease of 0.7 per cent, accompanied by a sales boost of 91.1 per cent to $141.2m, up from $73.9m a year earlier.
