US-based fast fashion retailer Rue21 has appointed Catherine "Cat" Morisano as its merchandising chief and Mary Blodgett as SVP of stores.

Prior to joining Rue21, Morisano was EVP and chief merchant at Charlotte Russe. Prior to this she was vice president of merchandising at Fashion Nova, vice president of merchandising of YM Inc, and divisional merchandise manager of Body Central.

Morisano succeeds Karen Pinney who is leaving the company.

"Cat is an outstanding senior merchant with close to 20 years of experience across leading digital and brick-and-mortar fashion companies," says Rue21 chairman and CEO, Michael Appel. "Her expertise is setting broad product direction that aligns with the customer."

Blodgett, meanwhile, joins Rue21 from Charming Charlie where she was SVP of Stores. Prior to this she was VP of stores for The Body Shop International, EVP of stores for TABI, zone VP northeast for Victoria's Secret, and SVP of stores for Ann Taylor.

Appel adds: "Mary has extensive experience in speciality retail translating brand value to consumers. Her track record includes success in sales operations, strategic planning, market expansion, project management and sales training. She has led store teams to achieve top performance by providing strong leadership, team mentorship, and focused talent initiatives."

Headquartered just near Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, Rue21 operates 697 stores.
