Fast fashion retailer Rue21 has reshuffled its leadership team in a move that sees former Chico's FAS executive, Laurie Van Brunt, named president and CEO.

Van Brunt, who succeeds Michael Appel who was named interim CEO in October 2017, served as president of Soma Intimates at Chico's from 2010 to 2017. At Soma, she led the transformation of the company by repositioning the brand as an omni-channel intimates brand and elevating its fashion aesthetic, helping to grow sales from US$87m to $350m.

Prior to Chico's, Van Brunt served as corporate vice president, director of private brand management at JC Penney where she managed the company's private brand portfolio of 22 brands across all merchandise categories. She has also served as senior vice president and general merchandise manager at Chadwick's of Boston; executive vice president and general merchandise manager at the Lane Bryant division of The Limited; and vice president and general merchandise manager at Casual Corner-Petite Sophisticate.

"We are very pleased to have Laurie join Rue21 to lead our management team. She is a proven results-oriented leader within all aspects of the business who has successfully led, built and turned around speciality store apparel brands," said Appel.

The company, which operates its Rue21 etc!, Rue+, Ruebeauté!, RueGuy, Ruebleu Swim, and Carbon brands, has also appointed Michele Pascoe as senior vice president and CFO, and Stephen Sommers as senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
