For the first time the US government yesterday delayed a safeguard decision on whether to limit imports of synthetic filament fabric from China.

The US government has extended its decision-making window until Sunday, July 31.
The petition on category 620 was filed by the US textile industry on November 8, 2004.

Synthetic filament fabric is used in everyday products ranging from trousers to sophisticated automotive and industrial fabrics.
The volume of US imports of synthetic filament fabric in 2005 was up 1,097 per cent through May and 1,191 per cent through June.

The case on synthetic filament fabric has now been in limbo for 252 days - more than 8 months.
