Retail group Saks Inc has announced the resignation of president and chief executive of the Saks Department Store Group, George Jones, and has named Toni Browning as president and chief executive of the Parisian business, effective 15 September.

Jones joined the company in 2001 as president and chief executive officer or SDSG, adding direct responsibility for the operations of Parisian to his duties in 2003.

Browning has held the post of president and chief executive of SDSG's Proffitt's business since 1997, adding responsibility for the McRae's division in 2000.

Steve Sadove, vice chairman and chief operating officer at SDSG, said that Browning has been a "driving force" behind store-wide initiatives while running the Proffitt's/McRae's business.

SDSG also includes the Carson Pirie Scott northern store group and Club Libby Lu, both of which the company is currently exploring strategic alternatives for.
