Designs Inc, operator of Levi's Outlet by Designs and Dockers Outlet by Designs stores, today announced that sales for the second quarter of fiscal 2002 decreased 1 per cent to $47.7m as compared to $47.9m for the corresponding period of the prior year.

Store sales for the second quarter of fiscal 2002 decreased 5 per cent. Sales for the six months ended August 4, 2001 were $87.1m as compared to $87.9m for the corresponding period of the prior year. Comparable store sales for the year to date period decreased 7 per cent.

David A Levin, president and chief executive officer of Designs Inc stated: "The second quarter comparable store decrease was in line with our second quarter business plan and showed marked improvement over the 10 per cent comparable store decrease in the first quarter."

Mr Levin further emphasised that the company anticipates continued improvement in comparable store sales during the second half of fiscal 2002 due to a better inventory position from a year ago.
