Retail giant Sears Canada Inc on Tuesday announced it had bought the brands and trademarks of bankrupt bra maker Vogue Brassiere Inc for an undisclosed sum in a deal that will see it continue to sell the brands in its department stores.

In a statement, Sears Canada said it had acquired trademarks including Vogue Bra, Vogue Dessous, and Vie, as well as their design and production specifications and lots of inventory.

It added new Vogue lingerie designs will be available from its stores in early 2003. Vogue went bust earlier this year.

Mark Cohen, Sears Canada's chairman and chief executive, commented: "Vogue has been an important supplier to Sears for many years. The Vogue trademarks represent strong and reputable brand names in the intimate apparel marketplace.

"Sears will leverage this reputation to enhance its current position as the largest-volume intimate apparel retailer in Canada."
