Department store retailer Sears is to roll out an exclusive LL Cool J apparel collection as part of its autumn assortment.

The tie-up with the rap star and actor comes after Sears carried out research to identify "an aspirational label that can be accessible to all", the company said.

Clothing will initially be offered in the juniors', kids' and young men's sectors, with future plans to expand into accessories.

The line will be in 450 US stores from September, with increased distribution planned for the holiday period.

LL Cool J has enjoyed a career spanning two decades, including ten platinum-selling albums and two Grammy awards.

"In essence, we wanted a brand that would resonate with an existing customer who desired authentic streetwear, and LL Cool J wanted an American icon retailer to which he could entrust his name and his vision," said Irv Neger, senior vice president, Sears Apparel.
