US retailer JC Penney sees India as potentially its second largest global supply base after China according to one of the company's top executives.

Speaking at a retail seminar in New Delhi, Mr Adil Raza, the India country manager for JC Penney, said that Indian sourcing into JC Penney is currently about one-quarter that of Chinese sourcing.

However, the company has consolidated its sourcing from 90 countries into 18, and now plans to consolidate further within Asia by focusing on supply bases like India, replacing its sourcing from countries such as Nepal and Mauritius.

The company currently sources a range of merchandise from India, including clothing, home textiles, glassware and a variety of other products.
