India’s Gaitonde Group has launched a search for a strategic partner or investor as it looks to grow its self-titled upscale formal leather shoe brand.

The company has recruited a team of international consultants to find a potential partner to strengthen a brand launched five years ago but which recently has suffered from a lack of investment and resources.

Group vice president Manish Kawlra told the Economic Times the brand is currently sold through six franchisee stores, 600 multi-brand outlets and various large format stores.

He added: "The brand is very strong in the south and we need to penetrate in the north and east. Further, we also want to enter the mid-segment shoe range by introducing products in the Rupees 1,000 and below price levels."
