Footwear producers have been told to improve their image and sign outsourcing contracts with foreign companies to make themselves known as big suppliers all over the world.

International footwear consultant James Parchman told delegates at a Hanoi seminar that the nation's shoes and trainers have yet to catch on around the world.

He urged them to prepare for more US orders in the wake of the new bilateral trade agreement. He also said they need to make use of small supply deals with US partners.

Vietnam is the fourth biggest footwear exporter in the world, behind China, Hong Kong, and Italy. The US, EU, and Japan are currently the industry's main target markets.
