Up to 95 workers at a Chinese shoe factory will find out over the weekend if they have been exposed to a chemical used in glue that hospitalised more than a dozen of their workmates earlier this week.

The women have undergone health check-ups after 13 of their colleagues suffered symptoms including numbness, dizziness and weakness after coming into contact with the poisonous glue.

According to the China Daily newspaper, bosses of the Anjia Shoe Factory have acted quickly to replace the glue with a safer version and improve ventilation at the plant in southern Guangdong province.

It added the company will also be fined and will make a contribution towards the workers' medical costs.
