Silk firms in China have been told to boost their output of final silk products if they want to boost exports and sales.

China Silk Association president Yang Yongyuan said that currently only 20 per cent of China's silk exports are finished products with the remaining 80 per cent raw materials.

He said in order to reverse that trend and cash in on his country's entry to the World Trade Organisation the industry should set up a quality-control system and guarantee tag system.
