Boot manufacturer Sorel has signed up to be the official boot sponsor of the US snowboarding team in the run-up to the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Sorel, owned by Columbia Sportswear, will take part in three key snowboarding events, including the first two stops of the 2009 US Snowboarding Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, Colorado, and at Boreal in California.

The brand will also be represented at the Visa US Snowboarding Cup, part of the FIS Snowboarding World Cup tour, at Sunday River, Maine, in February.

"Our sponsorship of US Snowboarding, the Grand Prix and the World Cup competitions is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase Sorel footwear in the rugged, cold-weather environment for which it is so well suited," said Katherine Lane, Sorel's marketing manager.

As part of the deal, Sorel will outfit athletes, event staff, volunteers and VIPs with Sorel footwear, including its Caribou boot.
