Sports Direct International has bought a 60% stake in outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Field & Trek for GBP5m (US$10.2m).

Field & Trek operates 11 stores, mostly in the south east of England and sells camping and outdoor equipment, waterproof clothing and footwear including brands such as The North Face, Berghaus, Merrell and Salomon.

In the year to 12 January, Field & Trek's had a turnover of GBP14m.

Retailer Sports Direct has an option for five years to acquire the remaining 40% for a further GBP5m.

Dave Forsey, chief executive of Sports Direct, said: "This strategic investment by the company helps to fulfil our objective of expanding our outdoor leisure offering. We will continue to seek to create value for the company's shareholders via such acquisitions and investments."

This is the second acquisition in as many weeks for Sports Direct, which is currently the front-runner to buy US boxing brand Everlast for more than $182m through its Brands Holdings subsidiary.
