Shoe and accessories marketer Steven Madden has announced a licensing deal with Tracy Reese granting it the exclusive right to make and distribute handbags, belts and related accessories under the Tracy Reese and Plenty by Tracy Reese brands.

Madden will make and distribute the brands through subsidiary Daniel M Friedman & Associates, under the direction of Tracy Reese.

The new product lines will be distributed at top-tier department stores and specialty stores including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Barneys, and Intermix, among others, beginning in autumn 2007.

The agreement is effective immediately and will last until the end of 2009, with two options for renewal.

"With this new license agreement we are taking an important step in further expanding our share of the accessories market and we are excited about the opportunity to diversify our product offering," said Daniel M Friedman, president of Daniel M Friedman & Associates.

"The Tracy Reese brand will be a very strong addition to our accessories business and we are delighted to be partnering with one of the hottest and most promising brands in the market."

Tracy Reese, designer and president of her namesake business, said: "We have high standards for our products, aesthetic and brand integrity. We are confident that our collaboration with Daniel M Friedman & Associates, a highly regarded leader in the accessory industry, will result in a beautiful and seamless addition to our clothing."

Madden bought Daniel M Friedman for US$18m back in February this year.
