Private equity firm Sun Capital has been cleared by the European Commission to buy Dutch department store retailer Vroom & Dreesmann.

Vroom & Dreesmann is the biggest chain of department stores in the Netherlands, with 62 branches selling a range of consumer goods including clothing and homeware. It was a subsidiary of Maxeda (formerly Vendex KBB), which also owns de Bijenkorf department stores.

Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
