Workers at the bankrupt Tack Fat Manufacturing Factory are trying to claim HKD2.75m (US$0.4m) in compensation, according to local media reports.

The South China Morning Post reports claims from workers at the Hong Kong-listed company that they had been told by liquidators that they could not be paid this month.

However, the reports added, the liquidator did not tell the employees whether the subsidiary of the swimwear maker would continue to operate.

The reports also claim that the 40 workers affected are ineligible to claim relief from the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund, because the subsidiary itself has not been taken over by a liquidator.

Tack Fat could not be contacted for comment today (22 October).
