Following a strong UK performance, leading US womens wear retailer Talbots is planning to expand further into the British market before moving into other European markets.

Talbots, which already has 768 stores world wide, with five stores located in London, is planning to set up outlets in other UK cities, but has not revealed which ones.

Commenting on  Talbots' plans for the UK, president and ceo Arnold Zetcher said: "Our sales performance there has been stronger even than in the US, and we ought now to be able to expand further.

"If we are able to get the bottom-line levels right, we will expand beyond London, through the UK and elsewhere in Europe."
