Pakistan and Morocco have agreed to start negotiations for a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) by October 2008, and to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

Moroccan officials have also agreed to pursue their government to reduce the high tariffs on imports of textile products from Pakistan.

The Advisor to Pakistani Prime Minister for Industries and Production, Main Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, and the Minister for Industries and Commerce of Morocco, Ahmad Chami, signed the MoU at the concluding session of the Pakistan, Morocco Joint Ministerial Commission in Rabat last Friday (18 July).

Trade between the two countries is presently at a modest level of US$120m per annum.
