US retail group Target Corp is rumoured to be lining up two new store prototypes designed to be environmentally-friendly.

According to the Minneapolis/St Paul Business Journal, Target will open a general-merchandise store format and SuperTarget store format in October.

Green features reportedly include water-saving restrooms, energy-saving lighting, heating and ventilation and recyclable construction materials.

The Minneapolis-based discount retailer will eventually roll out the prototypes at more than 100 US locations next year, the paper said.

Both store types are reported to be larger than existing locations and pushing closer to the average size of Wal-Mart Supercenters.

The company refused to comment further on the new prototypes when contacted by just-style today.
