Value retailer Target has announced the opening of a 3.1m-sq-ft distribution facility in Rialto, California.

The facility will help the company better serve customers' merchandise requirements, said senior VP, distribution services, Mitch Stover.

"We look forward to becoming a long-lasting partner to the City of Rialto, not only by helping with new jobs, but also by supporting the community through our philanthropic programs," Stover added.

The centre, which has been under construction in 2004, will initially create 500 jobs with more to be added in the centre's first five years of operations. It is part of a new Rialto-Ontario campus, which also includes an import warehouse and two additional import warehouse buildings in Ontario.
